Product description

Uses: This year-round formula is perfect for canaries, finches, budgies (parakeets), and various small parrots.

Conversion: All birds should begin with and stay on the High Potency Formula for a minimum of 6 months.

Special Needs: Ideal for birds that are moulting, overweight, underweight, highly active, kept in colder climates, recovering from illness, or dealing with liver or kidney issues.

Weaning Birds: Continue feeding the High Potency Formula for at least 6-9 months.

Breeding Birds: Provide the High Potency Formula 1-2 months before breeding and continue until the chicks are weaned, or for at least six months before switching back to the Adult Lifetime Formula. You can increase the amount of certified organic vegetables and fruits until the chicks are weaned. For every 2 Tbs (20 g) of the formula, add ½ (5 g) Tbs of certified organic sunflower seeds.

Storage: Harrison's Bird Foods are free from artificial preservatives. After opening, a bag should be consumed within 8 weeks. Storing in the fridge or freezer can help maintain freshness.

Feeding Directions: Offer fresh food daily and avoid topping off. To minimize waste, serve as distinct meals. Birds can eat as much as they desire, but use the following guidelines:

  • Canary / Finch: 1 - 1¾ g (1 tsp) of HPSF and ½ tsp of additional foods
  • Budgie (parakeet) / Parrotlet: 1½ - 3 g (1 - 2 tsp) of HPSF and ½ - 1 tsp of additional foods
  • Cockatiel / Lovebird: 2 - 5 g (1½ - 3 tsp) of HPSF and ½ - 1 tsp of additional foods

Feeding of Additional Items: Harrison's products should account for 75-80% of your bird's diet. It's advisable that 15-20% of the total diet consists of high-quality, preferably organic, vegetables and fruits. Dark yellow, meaty, or dark green leafy items like sweet potatoes, carrots, pumpkin, winter squash, broccoli, parsley, spinach, mango, or papaya are especially beneficial. Additionally, about 5% of the overall diet should include high-quality, ideally organic, items rich in omega-3s. This includes chia seeds, hemp seeds, flax seeds, or certain nuts. Refer to this article for further insights into the advantages of including these items.

It is not advisable to supplement with vitamins or other bird or animal dietary products.

[For birds suspected of having iron-storage disease: Steer clear of citrus fruits, tomatoes, kiwi, strawberries, and other foods high in vitamin C. Additionally, avoid grapes, currants, raisins, liver, red meat, egg yolk, or dark green vegetables like spinach, which may contain elevated levels of iron.]
