Buparvaquone injection for East Coast Fever

Indications of use: Buparvex is recommended for treating all variations of theileriosis in cattle, specifically for East Coast Fever (ECF).

Dosage & Administration: Administer 1ml of Buparvex per 20kg of body weight (2.5mg buparvaquone per kg) via intramuscular injection, which is generally effective for managing moderate cases of theileriosis. More severe instances may necessitate one or more additional injections of the same dosage, spaced two to three days apart as clinically required. Injections should be administered into the neck muscles, as this area allows for optimal drug absorption.
If Buparvex is used to inhibit theileriosis during its incubation phase, a single dose of 1ml per 20kg body weight, injected into the neck muscles, is typically sufficient to avert the emergence of clinical symptoms.
Warnings and Precautions: Buparvex is intended for intramuscular use only and must not be injected intravenously. Subcutaneous injections are ineffective as the drug is poorly absorbed, significantly diminishing its curative properties.
Adverse effects: Some localized swelling might occur at the injection sites, but this typically resolves within a few days. Buparvaquone is regarded as very safe, making significant adverse effects from over-dosage unlikely.

Withdrawal Period: Milk intended for human consumption should not be collected from animals treated with Buparvex for at least 48 hours post-treatment. However, milk from treated animals is safe for calves. Animals should not be slaughtered for human consumption until a minimum of 42 days have passed since the Buparvex treatment.
