This prefilter material, made from hollow ceramic rings, is designed to capture larger dirt particles.
As water flows into the filtration system, it is swirled through the hollow ceramic rings, allowing larger dirt particles to settle at the bottom. The prefiltered water then continues through the additional filter layers. EHEIM MECH is simple to clean and can be reused.

This optimized bio-filter medium offers excellent volume efficiency, extended intervals between cleaning, and superior decomposition capabilities.
SUBSTRATpro is composed of pearl-shaped sintered glass. Its spherical design enhances bulk density, allowing for maximum utilization of the filter's volume (in filter baskets or modules). Additionally, the optimal surface area of the beads encourages extensive colonization of essential purification bacteria.
The high bacterial population effectively reduces peak nitrite levels, resulting in longer maintenance intervals for the filter media.
