In a UV clarifier (also referred to as a UV sterilizer), aquarium water is passed in a thin layer past a UV-C lamp (burner). UV-C rays penetrate the water, effectively eliminating germs, algae spores, and other tiny organisms. Unlike conventional technology, which only irradiates from one side, EHEIM has integrated a reflector so that the radiation is reflected and penetrates the water from multiple angles. This leads to much greater efficiency with the reeflexUV+e, which utilizes the patented EHEIM reflector technology.
Furthermore, the EHEIM reeflexUV+e features a simplified water conduction system. The water flows directly around the burner without any detours, resulting in no loss of performance. The AUTO-OFF feature enhances safety; since UV-C radiation is harmful to skin and eyes, the reeflexUV+e immediately and automatically shuts down when opened.

It's important to note that compared to natural bodies of water, the bacterial concentration in an aquarium is relatively high due to the limited volume of water. Reducing this concentration to a more natural level is essential. However, aquarium water cannot and should not be entirely germ-free. The UV clarifier captures only the germs that are freely floating in the water, leaving the bound cleaning bacteria in the filter (biological filtration), as well as bacteria in the substrate, unharmed.
UV clarification effectively removes water turbidity caused by bacteria or floating algae. Essentially, it curbs algae growth by killing the spores. Generally, UV clarifiers contribute to healthier fish by lowering the risk of infection, making them particularly recommended for breeding tanks. Dangerous pathogens can often settle on eggs or infect young fish that lack sufficient immunity.
