In a UV clarifier (also known as a UV sterilizer), aquarium water flows in a thin film past a UV-C lamp (bulb). The UV-C rays penetrate the water and eliminate germs, algae spores, and other minute organisms.
In traditional systems, water is only treated from one side. EHEIM, however, has incorporated a reflector that allows radiation to be mirrored, penetrating the water from multiple angles. This leads to significantly improved efficiency with the reeflexUV+e, utilizing the patented EHEIM reflector technology.

In comparison to natural waters, bacterial levels in aquariums tend to be higher due to the limited volume of water. It’s crucial to lower these levels to more natural standards. However, aquarium water should never be completely germ-free.
The UV clarifier only captures free-floating germs in the water. Beneficial cleaning bacteria in the filter (biological filtration), and those in the substrate, are not affected.
UV clarification effectively removes cloudiness caused by bacteria or suspended algae. Essentially, it inhibits algae growth by killing the spores.
Using a UV clarifier generally promotes healthier fish by reducing the risk of infection. It is especially recommended for rearing tanks, as harmful pathogens can attach to eggs or infect young fish that lack adequate defenses.
