Protein skimmers are among the most important technical devices in a marine water aquarium and have the important task of removing organic pollutants, such as protein compounds, from the water cycle before they are converted into nitrogen by biological degradation processes. Marine water aquaria are constantly accumulating protein compounds as a result of feed, organic waste products and dead algae, animals and micro-organisms. As the majority of these compounds are broken down by nitrification, which is faster than denitrification, high levels of pollution lead to a long-term accumulation of harmful nitrate. The Cube Skimmer removes proteins (protein compounds) and inorganic as well as organic molecules from the water before the bacteria can decompose them. This reduces the load on the aquarium water and constantly reduces the nitrate content. The Aquamedic Kalkwasser Reactor is a unique stirrer.  Kalkwasser is one of the easiest methods to supplement calcium and alkalinity, and using a kalkwasser reactor makes it even easier.  The Aquamedic Kalk Reactor can handle very low flow as the stirrer mechanism is not driven by water pressure or stand-alone mixing pump.  The electric motor keeps the mixing of kalkwasser very consistent with low flow top off pumps. Aqua Medic Kalkwasser Stirrers feature a bar that slowly spins continuously to keep the kalkwasser saturated at the right level. At slow flow rates it does not create the heavy kalk slurry common with competing brands. This simple feature eliminates much of the overdose risk. Many of the other kalkwasser reactors available use a mixing pump to vigorously mix the kalkwasser at periodic junctions. This creates a highly-concentrated slurry of kalkwasser that cannot be dosed until it has settled out. To protect against this danger, these types of reactors require a complicated series of timers to control pump operation.

Aqua Medic Turboflotor 5000 Shorty  From the successful Turboflotor 5000 series we have developed powerful these protein skimmers for cabinet installation. The Turboflotor 5000 Shorty 2 and the Turboflotor 5000 Shorty Compact close the gap between the Turboflotor 1000 multi – for aquaria up to 500 litre (150 gal) and the Turboflotor 5000 baby for aquaria from 1000 - 2000 litre 250 - 500 gal). The Shorties are manufactured in 2 sizes to fit into most aquarium cabinets. Like the larger models, they are supplied with a venturi pump and our patented needle wheel.The water supply to the skimmer requires a second pump with a capacity of minimum 2000 l/h (500 gph). The skimmer may also be directly connected to the overflow of the aquarium. In this case it is recommended that a bypass be installed to control the water flow to the skimmer, especially if powerful return pumps are used.
