Nitrogen is a vital component necessary for metabolic functions, protein production, and the development of corals and macroalgae. Studies indicate a tightly regulated nitrogen cycle within reefs, where levels are often elevated in micro-zones adjacent to the corals (Radecker 2015, Wiedenmann, 2023) compared to the surrounding waters.

Maintaining nitrogen levels alongside phosphorus is crucial for promoting optimal growth and vibrant coloration in corals and macroalgae.
Adding inorganic nitrogen provides a precise method for boosting nitrogen levels without increasing phosphate or dissolved organics. A standard nitrate test will reveal all nitrogen forms introduced by Reef Nitrogen™. Reef Nitrogen™ works exceptionally well with an aquavitro® sentia™ dose doser to keep nitrogen concentrations steady based on your aquarium's specific needs. It can also be dosed manually with ease. Ideal nitrogen concentrations may vary but typically fall between 1 – 2 mg/L (4.4 – 8.9 mg/L nitrate). For the best results, pair with Seachem’s Reef Phosphorus™ to maintain a proper nitrogen to phosphorus balance.
