Alongside light, nitrogen, phosphate, and trace elements, CO2 is a crucial nutrient for the growth of aquarium plants. The healthier and more robust the plants are, the less likely it is for algae to thrive. Moreover, plants generate more oxygen that fish require for respiration, and when administered correctly, CO2 helps to maintain balanced pH levels in the water.
