These fine and coarse filter pads are designed for both mechanical and biological filtration. The porous material absorbs water uniformly, capturing dirt particles of all sizes. After a brief startup phase, beneficial bacteria, which play a crucial role in breaking down harmful substances, take residence in the specially structured foam.
The EHEIM MECH is a prefilter material made from hollow ceramic rings, designed to capture larger dirt particles. As water enters the filtration cycle, it swirls through these ceramic rings, allowing bigger debris to settle at the bottom. The prefiltered water then moves on to the subsequent layers of the filter. EHEIM MECH is easy to clean and can be reused.
The EHEIM SUBSTRATpro features an optimized bio-filter medium that maximizes volume usage, extends cleaning intervals, and delivers superior decomposition performance. Made from pearl-shaped sintered glass, its spherical design ensures high bulk density, allowing for complete volume utilization within the filter (whether in baskets or modules). The optimal surface area of the beads promotes robust colonization of essential purification bacteria. This high bacterial count facilitates the reduction of peak nitrite levels, leading to longer maintenance intervals for the filter media.
