In a UV sterilizer, aquarium water is passed as a thin film past a UV-C lamp (burner). The UV-C radiation penetrates the water, effectively exterminating microorganisms, algae spores, and other tiny organisms.
Using traditional technology, water is irradiated only on one side. In contrast, EHEIM incorporates a reflector that allows the reflected radiation to penetrate the water from multiple angles. This approach significantly enhances the performance of the reeflexUV.
Moreover, the EHEIM reeflexUV features a straightforward water flow design. The water flows around the burner without redirection, ensuring no performance loss.

In comparison to typical waters, the bacterial count in an aquarium is notably higher due to the limited volume of water. It is advantageous to reduce this count to restore it to a normal level. However, aquarium water should never be completely free of bacteria.
Only floating bacteria are captured by the UV sterilizer, leaving beneficial cleaning bacteria in the filter (as per biological filtration) and bacteria in the gravel substrate unharmed.
