In a UV clarifier (also known as a UV sterilizer), aquarium water flows in a thin layer past a UV-C lamp. The UV-C rays penetrate the water, effectively neutralizing germs, algae spores, and other tiny organisms.
Unlike traditional technology that irradiates water from one side, EHEIM has incorporated a reflector that allows the radiation to be mirrored, penetrating the water from multiple angles. This significantly boosts the efficiency of the reeflexUV+e, utilizing the patented EHEIM reflector technology.
Additionally, the EHEIM reeflexUV+e features a straightforward water flow system. The water flows directly around the lamp without any detours, ensuring no loss of performance.
The AUTO-OFF feature provides maximum safety. Since UV-C radiation can pose risks to skin and eyes, the reeflexUV+e automatically shuts off as soon as the unit is opened.

The concentration of bacteria in an aquarium is typically higher than in natural waters due to the limited volume of water. It’s essential to reduce this concentration to a more natural level. However, the water should not be completely free of germs.
Only the free-floating germs in the water are captured by the UV clarifier, while the bound cleaning bacteria in the filter (biological filtration), substrate bacteria, etc., remain unharmed.
Cloudiness in the water caused by bacteria or floating algae can be effectively eliminated through UV clarification. Essentially, algae growth is suppressed as their spores are destroyed.
UV clarifiers generally lead to healthier fish, as they lower the risk of infections. They are particularly recommended for breeding tanks, where harmful pathogens can latch onto eggs or infect juvenile fish that lack strong defenses.
UV clarification does not typically alter water parameters.
