This all-year-round maintenance blend fulfills the nutritional needs of healthy, non-breeding, non-moulting birds, including Pionus, Amazons, cockatoos, macaws, and other medium to large parrots. The Pepper Lifetime formula can be introduced after completing a 6-month dietary program with a High Potency formula, serving as a zesty alternative to the Adult Lifetime formula. It can also be offered to any bird as a treat or mixed into a High Potency diet to facilitate dietary transition. Additionally, it is suitable for birds showing clinical signs of papillomatosis.
Storage: Harrison's Bird Foods are free from artificial preservatives. After opening, a bag of Harrison's should be consumed within 8 weeks. Keeping the food in the fridge or freezer can help preserve its freshness.
FEEDING DIRECTIONS
Provide fresh food daily, avoiding "topping off." To minimize waste, serve as distinct meals. Birds can eat as much as they wish, but if this is given as their main diet rather than a treat, please follow the guidelines below:
-
Pionus: 10 - 15g (1 - 1½ tbs) of PLC, ½ - 1 tsp of additional foods
-
Amazon: 15 - 30g (1½ - 3 tbs) of PLC, 1 - 2 tsp of additional foods
-
Eclectus: 15 - 30g (1½ - 3 tbs) of PLC, 1½ - 2 tsp of additional foods
-
Cockatoos (large): 15 - 30g (1½ - 5 tbs) of PLC, 2 - 3 tsp of additional foods
-
Macaws (large): 20 - 60g (2 - 6 tbs) of PLC, 2 - 4 tsp of additional foods
FEEDING OF ADDITIONAL ITEMS
Harrison's products should constitute 75-80% of your bird’s diet by volume. It is advisable that 15-20% of the overall diet comprises high-quality, preferably organic, vegetables and fruits. Items that are dark yellow meaty or dark green leafy, such as sweet potatoes, carrots, pumpkin, winter squash, broccoli, parsley, spinach, mango, or papaya, are particularly beneficial. Additionally, aim for 5% of the diet to include high-quality, ideally organic, sources rich in omega-3s, like chia seeds, hemp seeds, flax seeds, or certain nuts. Refer to this article for further details on the importance and advantages of incorporating these foods.
It is not recommended to add vitamins or other supplements for birds or animals.
[For birds suspected to have iron-storage disease: Steer clear of citrus fruits, tomatoes, kiwi, strawberries, and other vitamin C-rich foods. Also, avoid grapes, currants, raisins, liver, red meat, egg yolk, or dark green vegetables like spinach that may contain high iron levels.]
