For Cats

A tasty paste designed for cats that provides an innovative approach to handling issues related to Feline Herpesvirus (FHV-1) infections.

Active ingredient: Each gram of Felisine contains L-Lysine 250mg in a flavorful gel.

Pack size: 60g

Indications for use: Research indicates that cats receiving the appropriate dose of lysine show milder clinical symptoms of FHV-1 after experimental infection compared to a placebo 1 group. The lysine intake from a regular diet is inadequate to suppress FHV-1 replication. Cats that undergo stressful situations that can trigger viral shedding demonstrated decreased viral 2 shedding after taking L-Lysine orally.

Feline Herpesvirus
Feline Herpesvirus (FHV-1) is a prevalent illness in cats, characterized by symptoms such as sneezing, nasal and eye inflammation, corneal ulcers, and fever. Studies show that nearly 97% of cats carry this virus. After initial exposure, the virus remains in the animal and stays dormant in nerve tissue near the brain. Under stress, the virus may travel down the nerves, potentially harming the cornea in one or both eyes. Factors that can lead to stress in cats include introducing a new pet to the home, moving the cat, or leaving the cat alone during vacations.

L-Lysine supplementation
While there is currently no cure for FHV-1, the condition can be effectively managed. Research has demonstrated that cats supplemented with the correct amount of lysine experience milder clinical symptoms of FHV-1 following experimental infection compared to a placebo 1 group. The lysine typically consumed in a regular cat diet is insufficient to prevent FHV-1 replication. Another study found that cats subjected to stressful situations known to trigger viral shedding exhibited reduced viral 2 shedding after oral L-Lysine administration.

Mode of action
FHV-1 replication and growth depend on the presence of arginine, an amino acid. When given as a supplement, L-Lysine (also an amino acid) competes with arginine, thereby hindering viral replication. Supplementing with L-Lysine does not 2 affect the plasma levels of essential amino acids, nor does it lead to arginine deficiency in cats.

Dosage:

  • Adult cats: 1 to 2 grams twice daily
  • Kittens: 1 gram twice daily (one gram is approximately 1.5cm of gel)

Cats that are susceptible to recurrent FHV-1 infections or have experienced more than two reactivation episodes should be maintained on long-term FELISINE supplementation.

Storage: Keep in a location below 25°C.
