• Dexamethasone contains the glucocorticoid dexamethasone.
• Dexamethasone has ten to twenty times the anti-inflammatory activity of prednisolone.

• Each ml contains 2 mg of dexamethasone in the form of sodium dexamethasone phosphate 2.63 mg. Benzyl alcohol 15.6 mg is included as a preservative.

• This preparation contains sodium phosphate ester of dexamethasone, a fluoromethyl derivative of prednisolone, which is a potent glucocorticoid with minimal mineralocorticoid activity.

• Dexamethasone is used to treat inflammatory or allergic conditions in horses, cattle, dogs, and cats.
• It is also the primary treatment for ketosis in cattle, induction of labor to prevent fetal edema, and udder edema in cows.
• Dexamethasone treats arthritis, bursitis, or tendon sheath inflammation via intra-articular injection in horses.

Dosage and Administration of Dexamethasone

• Dexamethasone is administered by intravenous or intramuscular injection in horses and can be given by intra-articular injection in horses.
• Dexamethasone is administered via intramuscular injection in cattle, dogs, and cats.

• Cattle: Milk: 72 hours, Meat: 8 days.
• Horses: Meat: 8 days.
