Product description

This all-year formula is designed to fulfill the nutritional needs of healthy, non-breeding, and non-moulting birds such as pionus, Amazons, cockatoos, macaws, and other medium to large parrots. An Adult Lifetime formula can be introduced after a bird has been on a High Potency formula for a duration of six months. It is also suitable for birds with specific dietary sensitivities.

Storage: Harrison's Bird Foods are free from artificial preservatives. Once opened, a bag of Harrison's should ideally be consumed within 8 weeks. Keeping the food in the fridge or freezer can help retain its freshness.

FEEDING DIRECTIONS
Provide fresh food daily and avoid "topping off" the previous day's food. To minimize waste, serve the food as distinct meals. Birds can eat as much as they like, but refer to the guideline below for approximate feeding amounts of Adult Lifetime Coarse (ALC) along with additional foods:

  • Pionus: 10 - 15g (1 - 1½ tbs) of ALC + ½ - 1 tsp additional foods
  • Amazon: 15 - 30g (1½ - 3 tbs) of ALC + 1 - 2 tsp additional foods
  • Eclectus: 15 - 30g (1½ - 3 tbs) of ALC + 1½ - 2 tsp additional foods
  • Cockatoos (large): 15 - 30g (1½ - 5 tbs) of ALC + 2 - 3 tsp additional foods
  • Macaws (large): 20 - 60g (2 - 6 tbs) of ALC + 2 - 4 tsp additional foods

FEEDING OF ADDITIONAL ITEMS
Harrison's products should constitute 75-80% of your bird's diet by volume. It is advisable to include 15-20% of the overall diet as high-quality, preferably organic, fruits and vegetables. Foods that are beneficial include dark yellow or dark green leafy items such as sweet potatoes, carrots, pumpkin, winter squash, broccoli, parsley, spinach, mango, or papaya.

Additionally, it is recommended that about 5% of the overall diet consist of high-quality, ideally organic, foods that are rich in omega-3s. Great options include chia seeds, hemp seeds, flax seeds, or certain nuts. For further details on the importance and advantages of these foods, please see the related article.

It is not advisable to supplement your bird's diet with vitamins or other pet supplements. For birds with suspected iron-storage disease: Avoid citrus fruits, tomatoes, kiwi, strawberries, and other foods rich in vitamin C. Steer clear of grapes, currants, raisins, liver, red meat, egg yolk, or dark green vegetables like spinach, which may have elevated iron levels.
