This year-round maintenance blend caters to the nutritional needs of healthy, non-breeding, and non-moulting birds, including lories, cockatiels, lovebirds, quakers, doves, pigeons, and other small to medium-sized birds. An Adult Lifetime formula can be introduced after a bird has undergone a dietary regimen of a High Potency formula for a minimum of 6 months. It is also suitable for birds with specific dietary sensitivities.
Storage: Harrison's Bird Foods are free from artificial preservatives. Once the package is opened, it's best to consume it within 8 weeks. Keeping the food in the refrigerator or freezer can help preserve its freshness.
FEEDING DIRECTIONS: Provide fresh food daily and avoid simply "topping off". To minimize waste, serve as separate meals. Birds can eat as much as they desire, but refer to the guidelines below for approximate feeding amounts of Adult Lifetime Fine (ALF) and supplementary foods:
-
Budgie: 1½ - 3g (1 - 2 tsp) of ALF; ½ - 1 tsp additional foods
-
Cockatiel / Lovebird: 2 - 5g (1½ - 3 tsp) of ALF; ½ - 1 tsp additional foods
-
Quaker: 3 - 7g (2 - 4 tsp) of ALF; 1 - 1½ tsp additional foods
-
Lory* / Conure: 5 - 9g (3 - 5 tsp) of ALF; 1 - 2 tsp additional foods
-
Dove / Pigeon: 5 - 15g (½ - 1½ tbs) of ALF; 1 - 2 tsp additional foods
-
Mynah: 20 - 100g (2 - 10 tbs) of ALF; 1 - 6 tsp additional foods
*For lories, it's recommended to soak the formula in 2 tablespoons of water and ½ teaspoon of corn syrup.
FEEDING OF ADDITIONAL ITEMS: Harrison's products should constitute 75-80% of your bird's diet by volume. It is advisable that 15-20% of the total diet comprises high-quality, ideally organic, fruits and vegetables. Foods rich in dark yellow or dark green hues, such as sweet potatoes, carrots, pumpkin, winter squash, broccoli, parsley, spinach, mango, or papaya, are especially beneficial.
Additionally, it is recommended that 5% of the overall diet consists of high-quality, ideally organic, items that are rich in omega-3s. Examples include chia seeds, hemp seeds, flax seeds, or select nuts. Refer to this article for more insights on the benefits of incorporating these foods.
Supplementing with vitamins or other bird or animal dietary products is not recommended. [For birds with suspected iron-storage disease: Steer clear of citrus fruits, tomatoes, kiwi, strawberries, and other foods high in vitamin C. Avoid grapes, currants, raisins, liver, red meat, egg yolk, or dark green vegetables like spinach, which may contain elevated iron levels.]
