This year-round maintenance blend fulfills the dietary needs of healthy, non-breeding, non-moulting birds, including Pionus, Amazons, Cockatoos, Macaws, and other medium to large parrots. The Pepper Lifetime formula can be introduced after a bird has completed a six-month dietary program with a High Potency formula, serving as a zesty alternative to the Adult Lifetime formula. Alternatively, it can be provided to any bird as a treat or incorporated into a High Potency diet to aid in the transition. It is also suitable for birds exhibiting clinical signs of papillomatosis.
Storage: Harrison's Bird Foods do not include artificial preservatives. Once opened, a bag of Harrison's should be consumed within 8 weeks. Keeping the food in the fridge or freezer helps preserve its freshness.
FEEDING DIRECTIONS
Provide fresh food daily, and avoid "topping off." To minimize waste, serve as separate meals. Birds may eat as much as they desire, but if fed as the primary diet instead of a treat, utilize the following recommendations as a guideline.
Approximate feeding amounts of Pepper Lifetime Coarse (PLC) and additional foods:
When given as the main diet (can also be used as a 'treat'):
-
Pionus: 10 - 15g (1 - 1½ tbs) of PLC, ½ - 1 tsp additional foods
-
Amazon: 15 - 30g (1½ - 3 tbs) of PLC, 1 - 2 tsp additional foods
-
Eclectus: 15 - 30g (1½ - 3 tbs) of PLC, 1½ - 2 tsp additional foods
-
Cockatoos (large): 15 - 30g (1½ - 5 tbs) of PLC, 2 - 3 tsp additional foods
-
Macaws (large): 20 - 60g (2 - 6 tbs) of PLC, 2 - 4 tsp additional foods
FEEDING OF ADDITIONAL ITEMS
Harrison's products should constitute 75-80% by volume of your bird's diet. It is suggested that 15-20% by volume of the total diet should consist of high-quality, preferably organic, vegetables and fruits. Dark yellow, meaty, or dark green leafy options like sweet potatoes, carrots, pumpkin, winter squash, broccoli, parsley, spinach, mango, or papaya are the most beneficial.
Additionally, it is recommended that 5% by volume of the overall diet includes high-quality, ideally organic, items that are rich in omega-3s. Examples include chia seeds, hemp seeds, flax seeds, or specific nuts. Refer to this article for more details on the importance and advantages of including these items.
It is not advisable to supplement with vitamins or other bird or animal supplementary products.
[For birds suspected of having iron-storage disease: Avoid citrus fruits, tomatoes, kiwi, strawberries, and other foods high in vitamin C. Refrain from feeding grapes, currants, raisins, liver, red meat, egg yolk, or dark green vegetables like spinach, which may contain elevated iron levels.]
