-
Usage: This year-round formula is suitable for all medium to large parrots, particularly African greys, cockatoos, large conures, eclectus, macaws, and pionus. Other species may transition to the Adult Lifetime Formula after a conversion period of 6 months.
-
Conversion: All birds should begin with the High Potency Formula and stay on it for a minimum of 6 months.
-
Special Needs: Ideal for birds that are moulting, overweight, underweight, very active, living in colder climates, recovering from illness, or dealing with liver or kidney issues.
-
Weaning Birds: High Potency Formula should be provided for at least 6-9 months.
-
Breeding Birds: Birds should be fed the High Potency Formula 1-2 months before breeding and continue until the chicks are weaned, or for at least six months before switching back to the Adult Lifetime Formula. The amount of certified organic vegetables and fruits can be increased until the chicks are weaned. For every 2 Tbs (20 g) of formula, add ½ Tbs (5 g) of certified organic peanuts or almonds and 1 Tbs (10 g) of certified organic sunflower seeds.
-
Storage: Harrison's Bird Foods do not include artificial preservatives. Once opened, a bag should be consumed within 8 weeks. Storing the food in the refrigerator or freezer helps preserve its freshness.
Feeding Directions: Provide fresh food daily—avoid "topping off." To minimize waste, serve as separate meals. Birds can eat as much as they desire, but refer to the guidelines below for approximate feeding amounts of High Potency Coarse (HPC) and additional foods:
-
Pionus: 10 - 15g (1 - 1½ tbs) of HPC; ½ - 1 tsp of additional foods.
-
Amazon / Eclectus: 15 - 30g (1½ - 3 tbs) of HPC; 1 - 2 tsp of additional foods.
-
African Grey: 15 - 30g (1½ - 3 tbs) of HPC; 1½ - 2 tsp of additional foods.
-
Cockatoo: 15 - 50g (1½ - 5 tbs) of HPC; 2 - 3 tsp of additional foods.
-
Macaw: 20 - 50g (2 - 6 tbs) of HPC; 2 - 4 tsp of additional foods.
-
Toucan: 50 - 150g (5 - 15 tbs) of HPC; 3 - 9 tbs of additional foods.
-
Hornbill: 100 - 300g (10 - 30 tbs) of HPC; 2 - 4 tsp of additional foods.
Feeding of Additional Items: Harrison's products should constitute 75-80% of your bird's diet by volume. It is recommended that 15-20% of the overall diet consist of high-quality, ideally organic, vegetables and fruits. Dark yellow or dark green leafy foods such as sweet potatoes, carrots, pumpkin, winter squash, broccoli, parsley, spinach, mango, or papaya are particularly beneficial. Additionally, it is suggested that 5% of the overall diet should be high-quality, preferably organic, items that are rich in omega-3s. Examples include chia seeds, hemp seeds, flax seeds, or certain nuts. For more information on the importance and advantages of including these items, refer to our article.
Note: It is not advisable to supplement with vitamins or other bird or animal dietary products. For birds with suspected iron-storage disease: Steer clear of citrus fruits, tomatoes, kiwi, strawberries, and other foods rich in vitamin C. Avoid grapes, currants, raisins, liver, red meat, egg yolk, or dark green vegetables like spinach, which may contain high iron levels.
