A COMPREHENSIVE NUTRITIONAL SUPPORT FORMULA FOR AILING OR INJURED BIRDS

This formula is designed for birds that require a readily absorbable source of nutrients. It’s ideal for medical and surgical patients recovering from systemic failures. It also supports birds transitioning to a new diet and those experiencing anorexia, which may slow down their gastrointestinal processing. Additionally, this formula serves as a hand-feeding diet for small insectivorous birds that struggle to digest cornstarch, such as bushtits, wrentits, vireos, wrens, and smaller flycatchers and warblers.

FEEDING INSTRUCTIONS

Warning: Proper feeding techniques are crucial to avoid harm to the bird or aspiration of the formula that could lead to pneumonia or even death.

INSTRUCTIONS:

• Step 1: Gently check the crop to ensure it is nearly empty before administering food.
• Step 2: Prepare fresh mixture: Combine 1 part dry formula with 1-3 parts bottled “drinking water” heated to about 103°F (39°C). Do not microwave. Let it cool to a lukewarm temperature.
• Step 3: Tube feeding is generally the most effective method. While facing the bird, insert the tube into the oral cavity from the left side of the beak, guiding it towards the right side of the neck. Deliver the food into the crop.
• Step 4: Feed until the crop is full but not overly stuffed, and clean any excess formula from the bird’s beak, feathers, and living area. Repeat as needed to maintain or increase the bird’s weight.

FOR OTHER ANIMALS

The Recovery Formula can also be given to any animals needing a nutrient-rich, easily digestible source, whether after surgery or during general rehabilitation.

• Step 1: Prepare fresh mixture: Blend 1 part dry formula with 2-3 parts warmed (around 39°C/103°F) drinking water or to your preferred consistency. Do not microwave. Allow it to cool to lukewarm.
• Step 2: Administer the warmed formula via tube feeding or spoon feeding as per veterinary advice.
• Step 3: Feed as necessary to ensure the animal's body weight is maintained or increased. Recovery is a low-fiber diet and is simple to digest, so frequent feedings may be needed.
